An Introduction

Urban Chain Studios is an affordable, multi-purpose high-end recording studio, audio production facility and rehearsal space that is subtly located in Penge, South East London. Our discreet location offers both privacy and an nondistracting environment for creativity.

We offer solutions to recording, mixing, production, remixing, over-dubbing, syncing, restoration, backing tracks and rehearsal space. Although still quite new, Urban Chain has already worked with major record labels, recording artists, clubs, extreme sports and outdoor music events, composers and video production companies.

Our extensive microphone collection, plethora of top-of-the-range outboard and collective experience, we are able to provide an extremely high quality yet competitively priced service.

Our studios are co-owned by John Calafati and Anthony Goldsbrough. John started off designing and installing bespoke audio systems. This later grew to club and bar sound system installations. He gradually learnt his trade as a live engineer mixing for the likes of Take That, Tinchy Stryder and Pixie Lott to name a few.

Anthony brings with him the musical and creative side to the team and his talents have seen him live the life of a session singer and guitarist for major artists such as Peter Andre, Julian Lennon, Sharon Corr and Donovan. In addition to such an impressive music CV his own band, The Rise, are currently signed to Conehead. Watch out for their forthcoming album…

We have various engineers who drift in and out but our two in-house engineers are Charlie Nash and Mathias Engstrom. While Charlie’s oldest love is early blues, there’s something about industrial, experimental techno that really gets to the core of him. Dirt and distortion are key here. Mathias, on the other hand, is a formally trained jazz pianist who’s always seen eye to eye with drum and bass. He’s recently seen several of his productions signed to the likes of Lifestyle Recordings and Extent V.I.P.
